The LEWIN families from GOLUB

In the year 2000 Sylvia and David Lewin made a roots trip which, of course, included GOLUB where the Lewin family came from.

Since then a large collection of documents has been gathered by David, and this is now the intended start of a web site devoted to the subject.

You will imagine my delight when Tami BLUM visited London in mid May 2007, and brought with her a photo collection which had belonged to her grandmother Erna BLUM nee LEWIN - DAvid's aunt. We now ask YOUR help to identify the many individuals in these photographs whom we do not recognize.

At this stage no attempt has been made to clean up the photographs - they were often written across by Erna, the writing being our clue to the content of the picture.

Inaddition to asking you to help identify, we also hope that you will participate and contribute your own collection.

For the moment these pages are in the private area of the Lewin family in London, but it is my intention before long to create a separate web site, devoted to the descendants of Golub.

Below are a few images of the 2000 trip, and the entry to Errna's Photo collection.

PLEASE NOTE: I have the pictures available with a HIGHER RESOLUTION than they are here in the web pages.
If you want any of them, just ask me.

This pair of houses belonged to Jacob and to Sally LEWIN, my grandfather
Jacob LEWIN, a brother of Sally, owned the house next door.

The yard - where once only our family lived, there are now 6 apartments.
A local was observing us anxiously - wondering what out intentions were.
We did not speak to anyone from the house.

Sally, my grandfather had a haulage business. He transported goods from the German railway in Prussia [German at the time] to the Polish/Russian hinterland which had no rail connections at that time.

The stables wee at the rear of the house.

A good connection across the border-river was vital to the haulage business, so that Sally actually paid for the building of a bridge.
Clearly, it has been rebuilt since then.

If you have missed it above, click on the image of Erna to enter her photo collection

On each page there are FIVE images across - so you need to scroll to the right to see the hidden ones

Eventually I will have to tidy this up
